All the music from The 3 Year Project was written by Sam in his late teens and early twenties, back in the late ’90s and early 2000s. During that time, Sam recorded two albums in the UK and wrote over 200 songs. Decades later, those songs have become the beating heart of the project and the foundation of our sound. They’ve been locked away in a cupboard for over 25 years, waiting to be heard.
Now, we’re breathing new life into those early ideas—taking the raw emotion and urgency of the original demos and transforming them into something powerful, modern, and built for the stage. As we work on perfecting our set, we want to share these songs with you. It’s a chance for you to hear where we started and witness the evolution of our music. You’ll get to experience the original spirit of the demos and see how we’ve grown and refined them as a band.
This is one song written in two parts :-
Going Nowhere Fast is about when fate makes you famous, inspired by “All along the watch tower” by Jimmi Hendrix/Bob Dylan.
Sell Your Soul is about realizing that fame is not all it’s cracked up to be.
Written after a bad break up and I wanted to escape from the pain. I remembered that there is always sunshine above the clouds and wanted to go on an aeroplane (high road) to somewhere different to escape the pain.
The song started off as a love song called “Will you” with different lyrics and melody. I recorded it at the studio and got home and connected with music but knew it needed some changes. At the same time, someone close to me was struggling and I was watching their relationship fall apart. There was in a line film “I can tell by your eyes” and that was the moment inspiration hit and the song wrote itself.
This song is about realising that all we need to feel happy is within ourselves.
The background to this song is that I had seen my future wife and was visiting a cafe every day just to see how her day was.
This was written for someone close to try and help with their mental health struggles.
I wanted to write a song with a story, a twist and no chorus. This story is about a soldier who beat up his wife and she killed him, he got the soldiers’ farewell and she was put in prison.
Hangovers make me feel really depressed and insecure and this song was written after a big blowout.
